Economics student among top three in UK for placement performance

Congratulations to Niamh Walsh who came third out of 450 students across the UK.

Niamh Walsh

Niamh Walsh, BA (Hons) Economics student, was recognised as the third best-performing intern across the nation during her year in industry with Enterprise Mobility.

Niamh was selected as the best performer in the South East, representing the region at the company鈥檚 Intern of the Year Finals 2025 where she came third.

Over 450 students took part in the scheme nationwide.

Niamh said:

Placing third in such a fierce competition has been my proudest achievement in my placement year.

I've learnt so much since starting my journey, to be selected to represent the Southeast of England, alongside so many talented interns was a big moment for me. It's not always easy to see your own progress in the moment, so getting recognised on this level really made me pause and appreciate my personal growth!

The competition involved Niamh pitching her business improvement ideas to a panel of senior leaders at the company鈥檚 European Head Office.

She was celebrated for her achievement earlier this summer, with a member of the School鈥檚 Curriculum and Programmes team accompanying her to the awards ceremony.

Niamh added:

From day one of my Internship with Enterprise Mobility, I was trusted with real responsibility - supporting branch operations, dealing with customers, managing sales, and monitoring KPIs that were integral to the maintenance of a successful business.

One of my key takeaways from my placement year is that growth prospers when you push yourself out of your comfort zone, which I can confidently say I have definitely done this year. I've developed stronger communication skills, learnt how to handle difficult situations and pressure, and built confidence in myself and my leadership style.

I am really proud of how far I've come this year, and am especially grateful for my team for curating such a supportive environment to learn in.
