PGCE Secondary Science: Chemistry with Lead Programme Partners / Course details

Year of entry: 2027

Course description

PGCE Secondary Chemistry with Lead Programme Partners combines university-based learning with school-led training.

PGCE Secondary Chemistry with Lead Programme Partners will train you to teach Chemistry focusing on the 11-16 age range, learning to teach the National Curriculum for GCSE and A2-level study.

Successful completion leads to a postgraduate qualification and recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

You will follow a PGCE course structure, with a modified timetable that includes school-based learning through your Lead Programme Partner alliance.

The majority of the course focuses upon practical training in teaching and learning-related skills. You will enjoy extended periods of school experience, which will provide opportunities to work in a primary setting and to teach in at least two different secondary schools. In total, 25 weeks of your PGCE will be spent experiencing and working in different types of school.

During your placements, you will be supported by university tutors, trained school-based tutors and a nominated Lead Programme Partner representative.

The University maintains a quality assurance and training role throughout the course, while working with Lead Programme Partners across Greater 51福利社 to offer this school-led route into teaching. Lead Programme Partner schools recruit and select their own trainees using the University鈥檚 PGCE recruitment criteria and systems.

Many trainees gain employment in Lead Programme Partner schools after the course, although this is not guaranteed. Completion of the course leads to a postgraduate qualification and recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status.
