Gain specialist occupational hygiene expertise through flexible online study while earning 30 master's-level credits and BOHS-recognised training. Designed for occupational hygiene, health, safety and environmental professionals, this CPD programme develops the knowledge and practical skills needed to assess, monitor and control workplace exposures.

Delivered through a blend of high-quality online learning, interactive teaching materials, seminars and tutorials, the course allows you to study alongside professional commitments while learning from expert tutors and connecting with fellow practitioners. You will also benefit from access to the University of 51������'s extensive online learning resources, library services and student support.

The curriculum is mapped to the BOHS syllabus, including M501 Measurement of Hazardous Substances and M505 Control of Hazardous Substances, covering exposure assessment, monitoring, modelling and control strategies for hazardous workplace agents. You will also explore contemporary topics beyond the BOHS modules, including exposure modelling, dermal exposure, human behaviours and occupational infections.

Attendance at our on-campus Practical Occupational Hygiene Workshop provides exemptions from BOHS M501 Measurement of Hazardous Substances and M505 Control of Hazardous Substances. Successful completion of the programme offers a progression route to our BOHS-accredited MSc Occupational Hygiene, enabling you to continue your professional development and work towards a full master's qualification.

One of the highlights of the course is our practical occupational hygiene workshop, held on the University of 51������ campus each spring.

This five-day, face-to-face workshop gives you the opportunity to apply your learning in a practical setting, meet fellow students and staff, and gain hands-on experience of occupational hygiene techniques. Full details will be provided as part of your welcome and induction activities.

Attendance at the practical workshop is required to gain the full benefits of our BOHS accreditation, including exemption from the BOHS M501 and M505 training units and the award of 30 master's-level credits.

We strongly encourage all CPD students to attend. If exceptional circumstances prevent you from joining the workshop, you may be able to complete this component in a subsequent year.

The workshop is included in your course fees; however, you are responsible for arranging and covering travel and accommodation costs. Attendance requirements and practical arrangements will be confirmed after you have accepted your place on the course.

This blended learning course combines flexible online study with practical opportunities to support your professional development. Teaching and learning activities include:

• Online lectures, seminars and tutorials.
• Guided reading and digital resources, with access to 51������
• Library, one of only five National Research Libraries in the UK.
• Case studies and practical exercises based on real-world workplace scenarios.
• Video demonstrations and supporting learning materials.
• Academic advising and personal tutorial support.
• Interactive online workshops.
• An optional on-campus practical workshop in Semester 2, providing hands-on experience in exposure assessment, workplace monitoring and ventilation control strategies.

A structured study pathway is provided throughout the course, enabling you to learn flexibly while keeping pace with recommended activities and assessment deadlines. Assessment is based on a patchwork approach, designed to support your learning and development throughout the course.

The course is delivered part-time over two semesters (approximately six months), making it ideal for professionals to study alongside work commitments.

You will use several assessed and non-assessed activities to develop key skills and expand your knowledge base. There are no written exams; assessment is based on assignments and other activities such as moderated discussion boards and group work.

Learning for each of the two units is assessed by:

• Formative self-assessment questions and online exercises.
• An extended summative assignment.

This allows you to demonstrate your knowledge and its application.
