Students guide to

Making a difference

Recent graduates tell us how they’re planning to make a difference in the world when they leave university by;

  • working in the community
  • changing environmental laws
  • improving healthcare

Students’ Union

Support your community by getting more involved in your Students’ Union (SU).

  • Use your voice and skills to advocate for other students by becoming an academic rep, taking part in campaigns and even running to be part of the Student Exec Team.
  • Get involved in fundraising initiatives run by other students. You can help raise money while organising exciting events and challenges – students have hitchhiked to Disneyland Paris, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and worn fancy dress for a huge range of local, national and international charities.

Self-development and making your mark

At 51¸£ÀûÉç, social responsibility is one of our core goals – we care deeply about making a difference.

As a part of our student community, you’ll be encouraged to find causes you’re passionate about, consider your role in society and think about how you can make your mark on the world.

No matter how big or small, the experiences you’ll have here will contribute positively to society and our wider world, and help you feel ready for wherever life takes you next.

With access to a variety of extracurricular activities, leadership opportunities and social responsibility initiatives, you’ll have the chance to make a real impact, both on campus and in the wider community, while developing personally and professionally.

The UN’s SDGs aim to tackle the biggest challenges facing our planet today.

All our undergraduate courses are connected to at least one global goal, meaning you’ll learn about and contribute to a more sustainable future as you study.
